Traditional Metal Braces

metal braces

Traditional metal braces are the most popular type that we offer at PDO. They are much more comfortable today than ever before. Traditional braces are made with high-quality stainless steel, and straighten your teeth using forces applied to metal brackets on teeth using archwires to connect them. With metal braces, you can also add colorful rubber bands to make your smile uniquely you!

Self-Ligating Braces

self-ligating braces

Self-ligating braces are made from the same materials as traditional braces. However, with self-ligating braces, we don’t need to use rubber bands. What does that mean? Fewer appointments here at PDO and less friction applied to your teeth.

Why is that the case with self-ligating braces? They are the same size as metal braces, but use a specialized clip in place of elastics to help the archwire guide teeth into place. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure on the tooth, and requires fewer adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.

Self-ligating braces are a great option for busy people who don’t have the time for appointments as frequent as our patients with traditional braces.

Clear (Ceramic) Braces

clear braces

Ceramic braces, also called clear braces, are made of clear materials, which makes them less visible on your teeth compared to metal braces. Ceramic braces are an ideal orthodontic option for older teenagers and adult patients who are nervous about getting too much attention for having braces.

Even though you don’t see them as well as metal braces, you should still take extra-special care of your ceramic braces. They require more attention to oral hygiene because ceramic braces are larger and more brittle than their metal counterparts. Because of this, we tend to use ceramic braces more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners, like Invisalign®, are another great way to straighten your smile without the whole world knowing just by looking at your mouth. Clear aligners use a series of removable acrylic trays, rather than brackets and wires, to straighten your teeth.

Since aligners are removable as well as invisible, you can easily brush and floss your teeth without any additional hassle. You also don’t have to worry about limiting foods you love, since you can remove aligners during mealtimes. Invisalign is a great option for adults who need orthodontic treatment.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces, also called behind-the-teeth braces, are hidden behind the teeth and are therefore “invisible” when you smile. They are completely customized to match the shape of your teeth. Lingual braces are a fantastic orthodontic option for athletes, models, actors/actresses, musicians who play wind instruments, and adult professionals.
