Joseph Rideau, DDS
I have wanted to be a dentist since I was eight years old, and I love being an orthodontist. I was fortunate enough to realize my dream, and I enjoy the process of doing orthodontics more every day.
My profession allows me to work with people of all ages, and to be a part of children’s lives as they grow and develop into young adults. In our society, people are recognized by their smiles; I have the pleasure of helping to correct and improve smiles every day. It gives me great joy to see the smiles I helped create for my patients when we meet in the community.
Because I love what I do, I have built a team of clinical assistants and administrative assistants who love what they do as well. Our team knows that the most important thing in a person’s life is his or her children. We always treat every patient in that manner. We treat each child as if he or she were our own.
Education and continuing education
I attended the University of California, Los Angeles to earn my Doctorate of Dental Surgery, and practiced as a general dentist for five years. During that time I served on the teaching faculty at the UCLA dental school.
Concurrently, I enrolled in the Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA and was awarded a master’s degree in public health with a specialization in health services administration. In the process of earning my degree in administration, I realized that treating patients was much more fun and fulfilling than being an administrator.
I became a UCLA student once again, and completed a residency in orthodontics. Immediately after becoming an orthodontist, I moved to the Bay Area and started practicing in Campbell and San Jose.
I particularly enjoy using the latest orthodontic techniques and technology in our practice so we can provide our patients with the absolute best-quality treatment and results. I am a lifelong student; every year I take classes to learn new procedures that enhance our ability to care for our patients.

Outside the office
Born and raised in Los Angeles, I am happy to be living in the greatest place on earth: the greater San Jose area. My wife Lorraine and I have been married for more than 30 years. We have two adult children who live in San Jose and San Francisco.
For recreation I like to ride my bike and make things. The things I have made over the years include our wedding rings, a television, stereo amplifier and preamplifier, Dobsonian telescope, grandfather clock, rocking chair, and wood strip canoes. I have also restored three vintage cars. But the most enjoyable thing I build is lifelong relationships with my patients.
